Strengths Coaching & Workshop details

Psychology has at its core a central theme; people feel good about themselves and make the most of their lives when they play to their strengths. Research from the Centre for Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) and the Gallup organization indicates that people are often not aware of what their main strengths in life are.

As in sport, you get a greater return for your investment if you spend your energy on areas of natural strength. Identifying your strengths, using them and celebrating them, is a profoundly rewarding experience for people. The key is to help individuals identify and then explore their strengths.

How Psychologists help people identify strengths
The University of Pennsylvania has developed an online questionnaire that provides an output of your top strengths from 1 to 24.

The team at CAPP believe that this is too narrow a definition of strengths and use simple interviewing techniques to understand where an individual’s core strengths lie. Their method is to watch body language and energy levels; to observe when a person feels engaged and energised.

The field of Positive Organizational Scholarship has developed a method of identifying strengths by asking the individual to obtain the views of peers and colleagues using 360 degree appraisal. These ask questions such as; describe this person when he is being at his best.

Our approach
Breathe-London.com has designed two workshops working with people to identify and celebrate individual and group strengths.

Identification: To help people identify their inner strengths we use a combination of techniques using the VIA, motivational interviewing and 360 degree feedback

Exploring: We encourage participants to discuss the pros and cons of having their top strengths We help identify how these strengths can be used to achieve valued goals. These may be individual goals or if the group faces a common challenge, how the group’s individual and collective strengths can be used to overcome that challenge or achieve a common goal.
