Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Most often delivered through a full body massage, aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils to cause changes in both physical and emotional health. Essential oils are pure, aromatic essences, extracted from plants. Each essential oil is made up of many chemicals, the combination of which can have a stimulating, balancing or relaxing effect on the body and mind. These chemicals when inhaled have a direct effect on the part of the brain that regulates our mood and emotions.  They can also be absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin when applied as part of a massage blend or other product. Once in the bloodstream, the molecules travel throughout the body, interacting with cells and other molecules.

Essential oils are extremely useful for tackling everyday challenges that many of us face, helping to prevent these from escalating into more serious health problems. Depending on their properties, different essential oils can be used to invigorate, uplift, calm, relieve stress and physically to help relieve certain conditions by supporting the immune system, circulatory system and lymphatic system, decreasing heart rate and calming the nervous system.

People come for an aromatherapy massage for many different reasons, including:

  • stress management
  • general wellbeing
  • increase energy and vitality
  • general aches and pains – shoulder tension, lower back pain, tension headaches
  • PMS
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Digestive difficulties
  • support during pregnancy

Do I have to be massaged?

No, following an in-depth consultation your aromatherapist can prepare a range of products for you to use on yourself. This may include an inhaler to use when you are facing a challenging situation, bath or shower products, diffuser blends, body lotions, oils and creams. Please note, you might not necessarily leave with the products following your consultation. Your therapist may need some time to formulate suitable blends and certain ingredients and packaging items may need to be ordered. If this is the case, they will be created and posted to you, or you can come into the clinic at a prearranged time to collect them.
